About the role

The General Food Service Worker plays a vital role in supporting kitchen operations and delivering high-quality food service at Bradford Woods, Indiana University's Outdoor Center.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares food items according to menus and portion sizes under direct supervision.
  • Measures, weighs, and prepares ingredients using manual or electric appliances; washes, peels, slices, and trims foods as needed for meal preparation.
  • Cooks and assembles menu items following established standards.
  • Washes dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment; maintains proper sanitation practices.
  • Affords assistance to cooks and other kitchen staff during meal service as needed.
  • Maintains a clean and functional kitchen by cleaning equipment, appliances, and work areas, removing trash, and sanitizing garbage containers.

Requirements

  • General knowledge at the high school level.
  • Preferred High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).

Skills

  • Working knowledge of preparation methods and practices for a variety of foods.
  • Considerable knowledge of basic kitchen sanitation methods and food safety practices.
  • Effective communication and exchange of information.
  • Ability to read and interpret recipes and calculate necessary quantities of ingredients.
  • Ability to learn to operate institutional kitchen equipment.
  • Coordination of both preparation and timing for menu food items.
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environments.
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods and perform light to medium physical tasks in hot working conditions.
  • Effective communication skills.

Pay

$12.25 - 15.50 per hour

Schedule

Between 6:00 AM - 9:00 PM, Sunday - Saturday with flexible scheduling based on availability.
