Part Time Faculty: National Security Law and Related Courses

About the role

Fordham Law School invites applications for an adjunct instructor position to teach Law courses in National Security Law and related issues. The Law School is particularly interested in courses that combine both theory and current legal practice. Course topics could include:

• the balance between security and civil liberties
• the powers of different branches of government
• specific areas such as domestic and foreign intelligence surveillance
• the use of force
• the law of war
• counterterrorism
• an analysis of the legal challenges of balancing national security secrecy with the public's right to information

Responsibilities

• Teach an engaging course at the Law School exploring legal issues in National Security, including in-depth analysis of case law, statutes, regulations, and practice-oriented documents
• Develop a thirteen-week syllabus that covers essential topics within a National Security domain
• Foster an inclusive and collaborative learning environment conducive to critical thinking, discussion, and debate
• Shape a set of learning objectives that students will master by the end of the course
• Evaluate and grade student course performance in alignment with the appropriate grading curves, providing constructive feedback to foster students’ understanding of core concepts

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree with a specialization in National Security Law subject area
• Prior teaching experience preferred

Pay

$2,000 to $15,000 per course based on credits, experience, and practice area.
