About the role
The College of Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University seeks a Part-time Instructor to co-teach FSC 606 – Advanced Forensic Science in Fall 2025 (8/25/2025).
Responsibilities
- Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
- Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
- Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments.
- Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
- Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
- Meting all designated class periods.
- If unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, reschedule the class or obtain a substitute.
- Notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and plan to cover the class.
- Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
- Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
- Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
- Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
- Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part-time instructors.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and experience with courtroom terminology and legal concepts, courtroom procedures and demeanor, court and jurisdicitonal differences, rules of evidence, admissibility standards.
- Relevant law related to pretrial discovery including responsibilities of attorneys and experts, and ethical obligations of expert witnesses.
- Preferred: Experience as a prosecutor or defense attorney in criminal trials.
