About the role

The College of Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University seeks a Part-time Instructor to co-teach FSC 606 – Advanced Forensic Science in Fall 2025 (8/25/2025).

Responsibilities

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
  • Meting all designated class periods.
  • If unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, reschedule the class or obtain a substitute.
  • Notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and plan to cover the class.
  • Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
  • Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part-time instructors.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience with courtroom terminology and legal concepts, courtroom procedures and demeanor, court and jurisdicitonal differences, rules of evidence, admissibility standards.
  • Relevant law related to pretrial discovery including responsibilities of attorneys and experts, and ethical obligations of expert witnesses.
  • Preferred: Experience as a prosecutor or defense attorney in criminal trials.
