About the role

The Department of Drama within the College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach DRA 125 Introduction to Acting for Majors – Acting, a three credit hour course, during the Fall semester, 2026.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 90-minute sessions three times per week to six different First Year cohorts over the full semester.
    • Prepare in-class exercises and activities, for both individual and group work.
    • Develop and/or update a class syllabus.
    • Prepare lectures, projects, or other student assignments.
    • Maintain regularly scheduled office hours.
    • Present instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course.
    • Meet all designated class periods.
    • If unable to meet a class due to illness or emergency, reschedule the class or obtain a substitute.
    • Notify the department chair of absence and plan to cover the class.
    • Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
    • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
    • Provide departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Build a positive rapport with students and other faculty.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Advanced or terminal degree (or equivalent professional experience) desirable.

Skills

  • Ability to teach acting techniques effectively.
  • Experience teaching first-year students.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Benefits

This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.

Pay

Salary is commensurate with experience.

Schedule

The position is part-time, teaching 90-minute sessions three times per week over the full semester.
