About the role

BIO 453 Ecology Laboratory, 3 credits, Fall 2026 (appointment starts August 17, 2026) This course addresses the process of ecological research. Labs and fieldtrips emphasize student-driven hypothesis generation and project design, statistical analysis, scientific writing, data presentation and literature reading. Lectures focus on ecosystems, communities and global change. This course meets in-person on the SU Campus.

Responsibilities

  • Developing and/or updating a class syllabus.
  • Ordering the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date.
  • Preparing lectures, projects or other student assignments.
  • Maintaining regularly scheduled office hours of two hours per week.
  • Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the class.
  • Meting all designated class periods.
  • If you are unable to meet with your class due to illness or emergency, you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or to obtain a substitute. You must also notify the department chair or their designated contact of your absence and of your plan to cover the class.
  • Working with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes.
  • Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations.
  • Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner.
  • Providing departmentally sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations.
  • Completing all other course-related duties as outlined by your department’s policies for part-time instructors.
