About the role
JFS Housing, Inc. develops affordable housing and operates a campus community in the Village of Brown Deer that provides residents with amenities for an active life while fostering social interaction, security, and privacy.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Safely drive tenants in facility vehicles to and from medical appointments, up to 20 hours per week.
- Follow pick-up and delivery schedules set by the Resident Care Coordinator and/or Director of Assisted Living.
- Ensure all passengers use seat belts.
- Operate wheelchair lifts and secure resident wheelchairs in vehicles as needed.
- Perform safety checks on facility vehicles before each operation.
- Refuel vehicles as required.
- Drive safely and comply with all traffic regulations.
- Assist riders in boarding and exiting vehicles.
- Regulate heating and cooling for passenger comfort.
- Follow accident response guidelines and contact appropriate staff to ensure trip coverage.
- Carry out other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Knowledge and Qualifications
- At least 21 years of age.
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and auto insurance with $100,000/$300,000/$100,000 liability coverage.
- Pass an insurance eligibility and driving record check.
- Pass a criminal background check.
- Thorough knowledge of traffic regulations and safe driving practices.
- Ability to pass JFSHI driver test.
- Genuine interest in the needs of seniors, individuals with mental health conditions, and others with age-related infirmities.
- Patience and tact in serving residents with diverse needs.
Physical Qualifications
- Ability to perform strenuous tasks related to loading and unloading passengers and items, including lifting a minimum of 50 lbs and maneuvering wheelchairs with passengers up to 400 lbs.
- Ability to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, stoop/bend, kneel, climb stairs, and move wrists, back, and hips freely.
- Full and complete use of all limbs to operate vehicle controls.
Skills
- High School Diploma required.
- Ability to occasionally work outside regular hours as needed.
- Ability to maintain resident confidentiality at all times.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Possession of necessary certifications to work in an RCAC or ability to obtain certifications within 3 months of hire.
- Experience transporting seniors or wheelchair-bound passengers is desirable.
