Parowan Elementary is seeking a Part Time Custodian I to work 10 hours per week (4:00pm-6:00pm). This position will remain open until filled.

About the role

The Part Time Custodian I is under the direction of the Head Custodian and in coordination with the Principal, performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure a safe, sanitary, and attractive school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains good housekeeping and proper care of the school grounds, keeping them safe and free of obstructions.
  • Follows preventative maintenance procedures and reports inoperable equipment to the supervisor.
  • Ensures energy efficiency by monitoring windows, doors, lights, and other areas according to district policy.
  • Assists with grounds upkeep (e.g., mowing, trimming, watering, raking) to ensure a safe and attractive environment.
  • Assists with minor repairs (e.g., adjusting desks, replacing lights, fixing door closers, plumbing, broken sprinklers).
  • Assists in site preparation for daily operations (e.g., opening gates, raising flags, sweeping walkways).
  • Assists with site snow removal to ensure access and safety.
  • Cleans assigned facilities and/or grounds (e.g., classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, multipurpose rooms).
  • Performs minor maintenance on custodial equipment (e.g., changing vacuum cleaner belts, bags).
  • Performs summer cleaning and maintenance (e.g., stripping and waxing floors, moving furniture, painting).
  • Ensures all doors, windows, and other areas of the building are secure at the end of the day.
  • Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies (e.g., paper towels, soap).
  • Vacuums and sweeps all rooms, corridors, halls, and offices at least once each day.
  • Mops restroom floors, cleans and disinfects fixtures, mirrors, and stalls, and checks paper and hand soap daily.
  • Observes and suggests repairs, alterations, changes, and equipment needs for the school.
  • Responds to immediate safety and operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, vandalism, alarms).
  • Reports safety, sanitary, and fire hazards.
  • Responds to inquiries from staff, students, parents, and visitors, directing them to appropriate personnel as needed.

Requirements

  • Basic computer knowledge, familiarity with Google Docs, and frequent email checking.
  • Willingness to learn and use all required computer systems and software.
  • Regular, reliable, and predictable attendance and job performance.
