Part Time Custodian
Independence Community College (ICC) is a small, rural, residential community college in southeast Kansas.
About the Role
The college is seeking a team-oriented professional who, as part of the Maintenance Team, will perform a wide variety of custodial activities. The position includes providing specific building maintenance, assisting with basic building interior and exterior improvement activities, assisting with building/campus activity set-up, identifying custodial/maintenance needs, processing work orders, establishing usage schedules, completing work list priorities, and initiating preventive maintenance. The Director of Maintenance and Facilities may assign other duties for the successful operation of the campus.
Responsibilities
- Provide specific building maintenance as assigned.
- Assist with basic building interior and exterior improvement activities.
- Assist with building/campus activity set-up.
- Provide services for campus buildings as assigned.
- Perform custodial services.
- Identify specific building custodial/maintenance needs, process work orders, establish usage schedules, complete work list priorities, and initiate preventive maintenance.
- Other responsibilities necessary to the successful operation of the campus.
- Demonstrate clarity of thought and expression.
- Exhibit time management and organizational skills.
- Display a self-starting, energetic work ethic.
- Maintain hands-on familiarity with custodial and maintenance functions and equipment.
- Ensure quality of campus work environment.
- Work alone with minimal supervision and/or with others as needed.
- Perform custodial work and other duties as assigned for the successful operation of the campus.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Custodial experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to college work ethic.
- Self-starting attitude.
- Valid driver’s license to drive between locations.
- Ability to lift a minimum of thirty pounds; heavier items may be moved with assistance or equipment.
- Ability to perform assigned work tasks on a ladder or scaffolding.

The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the Custodian position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
- Light work with occasional lifting of thirty pounds or more, carrying supplies, and equipment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods, walk, move constantly, climb ladders, perform overhead work, and operate maintenance equipment.
- Constant hand grasp; frequent standing, walking, and repetitive leg and arm movements; bending, reaching forward and overhead; squatting, kneeling, twisting, climbing, and crawling.
- Verbal communication skills with excellent comprehension of the English language.
- Work is generally performed indoors or outdoors in all weather conditions, including maintaining grounds during inclement weather.
- Work may be required when the college is closed.
Schedule
This is a 12-month, part-time position.
