About the role
This position plays an important role in supporting daily operations by ensuring the facility and surrounding grounds are well-maintained, functional, and presentable year-round.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of custodial and facility maintenance duties, such as cleaning and maintaining offices, classrooms, restrooms, hallways, gym areas, kitchens, and common spaces.
- Operate and maintain a variety of equipment, including floor scrubbers, buffers, carpet extractors, lawnmowers, and other custodial and groundskeeping tools to ensure facilities remain in excellent condition.
- Inspect and document emergency lighting and fire extinguishers for proper operation.
- Maintain storage of custodial supplies; request replenishments as needed.
- Identify facility maintenance needs and coordinate repairs through established work order processes.
- Support facility safety and compliance efforts by maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), adhering to OSHA, EPA, and other applicable safety standards.
- Perform seasonal grounds maintenance duties, including mowing, trimming, weed control, landscaping, caring for trees and shrubs, and snow removal during winter months.
Qualifications
- PREFERENCES: Preference may be given to those with a High School Diploma Plus 6 months of progressive work experience, typically in Building and Grounds.
- AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: The agency requires the successful applicant to have a valid Driver's License and obtain/maintain a Federal Security Clearance.
- Knowledge: Knowledge of OSHA safety regulations and understanding of SDS sheets to ensure knowledge of potentially hazardous chemicals; knowledge of materials, supplies, equipment, and more technical cleaning and maintenance methods; skilled in custodial maintenance; skilled in operating light and heavy-duty equipment; knowledge of basic math, irrigation systems, basic electricity, and lawn care; knowledge of Bloodborne Pathogens.
- Education: Minimum qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, 0-6 months of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds), or 1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Building and Grounds).
