About the Role

This is a part-time, as-needed position driving college passenger vans, shuttle buses, ultra coaches, and motor coaches for various college activities and athletics events. The schedule includes weekdays, nights, early mornings, and weekends, with shifts ranging from a few hours to multi-day trips. Travel may include out-of-town and out-of-state destinations, primarily within Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming, as well as other states as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Safely drive and operate 12-passenger vans, shuttle buses with ADA lifts, 28- to 40-passenger ultra coaches, and up to 58-passenger motor coaches.
  • Transport college groups to scheduled events and activities in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
  • Maintain passenger safety and comfort throughout trips.
  • Conduct thorough pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report deficiencies promptly.
  • Ensure vehicles meet all safety and operational requirements before transport.
  • Provide courteous and professional customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities.
  • Assist passengers with mobility needs, including operating ADA lifts and safely loading/unloading equipment, luggage, and supplies.
  • Maintain vehicle cleanliness and readiness, ensuring interiors and exteriors are presentable and represent the college professionally.
  • Remain alert and focused during extended driving periods.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of commercial driving laws, regulations, and safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of defensive driving techniques and passenger transportation best practices.
  • Understanding of ADA requirements and safe passenger assistance procedures.
  • Skilled in operating 12-passenger vans, shuttle buses with ADA lifts, 28- to 40-passenger coaches, and up to 58-passenger motor coaches.
  • Ability to navigate routes safely and efficiently, responding appropriately to road, weather, and traffic conditions.
  • Knowledge of pre-trip and post-trip inspection procedures and vehicle safety standards.
  • Ability to identify mechanical, safety, or operational issues and complete inspection documentation accurately.
  • Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and ability backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of safe lifting techniques and passenger assistance procedures, including ADA lift operations.
  • Ability to lift and move items weighing up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to sit and operate a vehicle for extended periods, assist passengers with loading/unloading, and perform inspections in varying weather conditions.
