About the role
Provides prompt and friendly service to customers and assists them when necessary. Operates a cash register and performs all related duties.
Responsibilities
- Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern, and patience in all customer interactions.
- Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner throughout the store.
- Operates cash register accurately, scans all products, and processes transactions including cash, checks, EFT, in-store charges, discounts, and promotional coupons (e.g., food stamps, WIC checks, rain checks).
- Counts back change, issues receipts, and Catalina coupons.
- Places merchandise in carts neatly and organizes items.
- Assists courtesy personnel as needed and answers customer questions, following up with appropriate personnel.
- Understands and follows local, state, and company policies on sales of tobacco and liquor.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines regarding WIC and food stamps.
- Knows value, look-up numbers, department numbers, and features of items for which money is received.
- Stocks, faces, and rotates merchandise; cleans shelves; understands shelf tags; and knows merchandise locations in-store and in the back room.
- Takes customers to items if available.
- Reviews weekly store ad to note price changes and sale items.
- Keeps register area clean, adheres to “5S” standards, ensures adequate supplies, and helps maintain store appearance.
Requirements
- Ability to carry out detailed but straightforward written or verbal instructions and deal with concrete variables.
- Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal or demonstrated instructions, write identifying information, and request supplies verbally or in writing.
- Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with depth perception and field of vision.
- Ability to work shifts varying in length and time, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Good judgment is required, as direct supervision may not always be immediately available.
Pay
UNFI anticipates paying the above-referenced pay rate (or within the above-referenced pay range) for this position. Actual pay will depend on factors including education, experience, training, and applicable collective bargaining agreements.
