About the Role

Caregivers are the main support providers to our residents, offering emotional support, easing residents' lives, and helping them maintain a high quality of life by assisting with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs). This role is part of the Resident Care Team and reports to the Wellness Coordinator. The position is challenging yet rewarding, as residents show strong appreciation for the assistance caregivers provide.

Our Resident Care Department delivers individualized care to seniors needing assistance with personal tasks, including bathing, toileting, dressing, mobility, medication administration, and engagement in social activities. Care associates strive to maintain resident independence and dignity through compassion, patience, and understanding.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including waking, toileting, feeding, safety, light cleaning, oral care, and bathing.
  • Respond to resident emergency calls in a timely manner.
  • Provide assistance during mealtime, activities, or wherever necessary.
  • Offer emotional support to residents by treating them with respect, dignity, and maintaining a positive, cheerful appearance.
  • Promote resident safety and wellbeing through written and verbal procedures, safety equipment, and awareness of potential dangers.
  • Assist with janitorial and housekeeping tasks as needed.
  • Participate in shift change meetings to communicate resident status or special needs to oncoming associates.
  • Report changes in behaviors or medical conditions to community leadership.
  • Follow direction from shift supervisors regarding care, emergencies, and resident needs.
  • Communicate with outside agencies and community partners such as hospice and home health agencies.
  • Complete all required documentation (e.g., resident care summary, 24-hour report, shower logs).
  • Assist with all other duties as assigned by the Wellness Coordinator and community leadership.

Regular attendance, punctuality, and dependability are critical, as residents rely on associates every hour of every day. Associates are expected to support co-workers, welcome new associates and residents, and actively participate in team, community, and company goals.

Competencies

  • Patience: Works hard to understand people and processes before making judgments. Tolerant, sensitive, and takes time to listen. Follows established processes without taking shortcuts.
  • Customer Focused: Dedicated to meeting and exceeding customer needs by building effective relationships and gaining trust and respect.
  • Passion for Seniors: Strong commitment to working with the senior population, often driven by personal experience or prior work in senior care settings.
  • Integrity and Trust: Follows through on commitments, avoids shortcuts, and does the right thing even when it does not directly benefit themselves.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • In North Carolina, a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is required.
  • Previous experience as a caregiver is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with the elderly or memory-impaired adults is preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Constant use of manual dexterity, auditory and visual skills, and gross motor skills, with frequent use of bi-manual dexterity and fine motor skills.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.
  • Occasional exposure to hot water and cleaning chemicals.
  • Ability to reach, bend, twist, squat, kneel, push, and pull.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; may experience up to 80 pounds of pressure during resident transfers using transfer belts or mechanical assists.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements, including simple grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
  • Constant standing and walking.
