Responsibilities

  • Ensures total operation compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains high level of customer service and positive donor experience.
  • Maintains cleanliness of work area.
  • Reviews and confirms donor identification and maintains donor confidentiality.
  • Sets up and prepares all equipment and disposable supplies for venipuncture and plasmapheresis procedures.
  • Labs and ensures each unit and samples are labeled accurately.
  • Executes venipunctures and plasma collection, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Operates automated plasmapheresis machines, responding and evaluating machine alarms and alerts, donor adverse events, document exceptions, etc.
  • Maintains proper ratio to ensure donor safety and product quality.
  • Disconnects donors and manages disposal of biohazard waste and contaminated equipment.
  • Performs daily, weekly, and monthly calibration/maintenance of automated plasmapheresis machines and removes/replaces equipment from service.
  • Maintains accurate and thorough documentation of necessary records, including Plasmapheresis Machine Logs.
  • Reports all unsafe situations and conditions to management.
  • Maintains/stocks adequate inventory and replenishes supplies on plasma carts.
  • Able to drive training efficiencies to ensure timeliness and compliance.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting machine alarms/alerts and performing QC routines (daily/monthly).
  • Performs other job-related tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum three (3) months’ experience in a medical or healthcare environment or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Completed training appropriate for duties before performing duties independently.
  • Strong customer service skills required.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated consistency and reliability (good attendance, punctuality, apply full effort throughout shift, flexibility with assigned schedule).
  • Ability to work daytime and evening hours, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts frequently.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture required.
  • Effective communication skills required.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to tug, lift, and pull up to thirty-five pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, or kneel.
  • Ability to utilize all required PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
  • Occupational exposure to blood borne pathogens.
  • Ability to view video display terminal less than 18” away from face for extended periods.
  • Time spent entering an environment with a temperature of -40°C according to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ability to perform precise tasks requiring repetitive small motor skills, such as drawing blood for diagnostic tests.
  • Ability to use assistive devices if needed for mobility or communication.
