About the role

The Part-time Associate at Smart & Final, Bakersfield, operates within a community-focused grocery store. This position involves various tasks including stocking shelves, operating cash registers, and providing customer service.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a store section as assigned and may order, receive, and stock merchandise using proper equipment.
• Affirm proper pricing on merchandise, check product date codes, and stock shelves, end displays, floor stacks, displays, and refrigerated/frozen cases.
• Prepare perishable products for sale, set up advertising/promotional displays, review invoices/bills for accuracy, and clean and maintain sanitation standards in all areas of the store.
• Operate a cash register, receive payment from customers, make change or process check/charge/debit transactions, process cash and/or credit refunds, verify customer eligibility for alcohol sales, offer assistance to customers, and load customer purchases.
• Perform basic bookkeeping duties, record lost/damaged goods and store supplies, and assist with inventory management.

Requirements

• Ability to read and write English.
• Ability to interact with the general public and co-workers.
• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, product labels, product pricing codes, shelf tags, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to write simple correspondence.
• Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 45 pounds, and occasionally up to 60 pounds.

Qualifications

• Basic PC/Outlook skills.
• Retail Management Certificate (preferred).
