Part-Time Assistant II, Biology Lab
PURPOSE AND SCOPE
The Part Time Assistant II, Biology Lab (Teaching Assistant) provides support to faculty and helps facilitate student learning in the Biology Department for the following classes: Majors Biology I & II, Non-Majors Bio I & II, Microbiology, and Anatomy & Physiology I & II.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides Support to faculty with the delivery of labs (such as helping students learn to use lab equipment, clarifying directions for procedures, setting-up or taking-down lab practicals, etc.).
- Affords assistance to both faculty and students during labs, encourages student engagement and critical thinking, proactively supports the department, and maintains laboratories to ensure a clean and safe work/laboratory environment.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, staff, fellow lab assistants and students.
- Proficient in standard Biology lab protocols.
- Specialized skills in Anatomy and Physiology.
Physical Abilities
- The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities.
- The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as above average agility and dexterity.
Work Schedule And Conditions
- The work involves regular exposure to outdoor elements, and/or regular exposure to hazardous items such as chemicals, toxic or caustic materials, contamination, and electrical hazards.
- This exposure requires special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, carts, or machines; exposure to contagious diseases or irritant chemicals.
- Employees may be required to use protective clothing or gear, such as masks, gowns, coats, boots, goggles, gloves, or shields.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completion of Biology 2401.
Salary
The Hourly Pay Rate is $15.60.
