About the role
The UMKC Math Academy is seeking adjunct math instructors to teach dual credit math classes in local high schools during the fall and spring semesters. This role allows teachers to focus on students and their knowledge of the content, fostering excitement in STEM areas.
Responsibilities
- Teach 1-3 classes consisting of Dual Credit math and/or HS math courses at area high schools
- Travel to different sites and buildings during the day as needed
- Identify math strengths and weaknesses of students and adjust content and pacing to fill knowledge/skill gaps
- Collaborate with other teachers in the Math Academy to meet the needs of diverse students
- Understand and implement key departmental objectives
- Impact the quality of own work and the work of others on the Academy team
- Serve as a liaison with building administration, faculty, staff, trainers, and/or other internal and external constituents
- Work with industry professionals to provide students with career insights
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education
- Missouri Teaching Certificate
- Over 10 years' experience teaching HS math classes
- To teach dual credit classes, must have either
Preferred Qualifications
- Thorough knowledge of middle and high school math curriculums
- Experience working with school district central office personnel
- Effective project and time management skills
- Self-starter, willing to take risks, able to work independently
- Experience in schools with high student populations of underserved communities
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics Education
- Missouri Teaching Certificate
- Over 10 years' experience teaching HS math classes
