Part-time Adjunct Clinical Instructor – Nashville, Tennessee

Part-time adjunct clinical instructors for the School of Nursing’s clinical practicum offerings at contracted hospitals in the Nashville, TN area.

About the role

Adjunct clinical instructors report to the Associate Dean and collaborate with instructional faculty overseeing the course/content area. Excelsior University provides fully developed courses with materials and activities, allowing instructors to focus on student support. Instructors are expected to respond promptly to student needs, offer timely formative feedback, and demonstrate clinical expertise in supervising and evaluating students’ clinical experiences. A commitment to student success is essential, including supporting engagement and retention initiatives, assisting struggling students, and collaborating with faculty and support staff to ensure access to resources.

Responsibilities

• Successfully complete institution-sponsored training program.
• Fulfill all requirements and adhere to policies in the Excelsior University Clinical Faculty Handbook.
• Work 2 non-consecutive weekends at a clinical site during an 8-week course term (Friday: 6 hours—3 hours orientation, 3 hours patient care; Saturday/Sunday: 12 hours each day).
• Remain present for the entire clinical day, adhering to the full duration of clinical hours.
• Plan and coordinate patient assignments for students consistent with course and clinical objectives.
• Demonstrate competency with nursing skills and associated technology (EHR, automated medication dispensing systems, smart intravenous pumps, etc.).
• Demonstrate familiarity with assigned clinical unit(s) and facility policies; complete all facility-required training.
• Participate in pre- and post-clinical activities with students within Canvas LMS.
• Conduct synchronous Zoom sessions with students as indicated by the course.
• Exhibit content and skill-based expertise when engaging with students; provide evidence-based professional examples.
• Provide individualized feedback summarizing student strengths and areas for improvement.
• Complete individual clinical evaluation rubrics for each student in a timely manner.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in nursing required; or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with active enrollment in and progression toward a master’s or doctoral degree in Nursing.
• Active, unencumbered NYS RN license.
• Minimum of 5 years of RN experience in varied clinical areas, caring for patients across the lifespan.
• Current clinical experience within an acute care hospital setting.
• Experience supervising nursing students and/or new graduate RNs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely.
• Experience with educational technology, including video conferencing software.
• Current BLS certification.

Pay

Compensation for serving as a Clinical Instructor is $5,000 per course. Payments are processed on a bi-weekly payroll cycle and are subject to federal, state, and/or local withholding taxes.
