Part-Time ACT Team Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner/ Physician's Assistant

About the role

A Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team consists of a community-based group of medical, behavioral health and rehabilitation professionals who use a team approach to meet the needs of an individual with severe and persistent mental illness. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant is responsible for the overall mental assessment and treatment of consumers in conjunction with team members.

Responsibilities

  • See an individual for the assessment and treatment of his or her symptoms and response to medication including side effects.
  • Provide clinical supervision and oversight of the psychiatric services delivered by the NP or PA.
  • Collaborate with the team leader in sharing overall clinical responsibility for monitoring an individual’s treatment and clinical supervision to the team.
  • Actively collaborate with nurses to develop and implement medication administration policies and procedures as well as overseeing the medical care of individuals that includes regular screenings for medical conditions and assessment of wellness and health management.
  • Educate non-medical team members on psychiatric and non-psychiatric medications, their side effects, and health related conditions.
  • Provide psychiatric back-up to the program after-hours and weekends (Note: may be on a rotating basis as long as other psychiatric care providers who share on-call and have access to individual’s current status and medical records and current medications).
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluation.
  • Consultation to medical and mental health providers.

Requirements

  • A psychiatric nurse practitioner currently licensed as a NP in NC.
  • A physician assistant currently licensed as a PA in NC.

Qualifications

  • Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • High level proficiency in Microsoft Office- MS Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.

Skills

  • At least 3 years’ experience in clinical services, primary and behavioral health care integration, organizational change processes, and consultation and training development/implementation.
  • Experience treating individuals with SPMI.
