Part-Time ACCESS Counselor

Location: Lynn, MA • Part-time • Grant-funded, MCCC non-benefited position

About the role

The ACCESS program is an inclusive postsecondary education program at NSCC that expands opportunities for college access and engagement among students with intellectual and developmental disabilities by providing meaningful participation in NSCC coursework, campus life, and career exploration. As part of that work, NSCC is partnering with local public school districts to serve students ages 18-22 who remain eligible for special education services under an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and are enrolled in a district's postsecondary transitional bridge programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct and participate in person-centered planning meetings to advise and support students in navigating campus and campus systems to create pathways towards academic and career goals.
• Plan, schedule, and/or conduct on- and off-campus events, such as information sessions, workshops, school meetings, and campus tours, for ACCESS students, ACCESS students' families, partner districts, and anyone interested in the ACCESS program.
• Plan, coordinate, and help lead ACCESS students in individualized and small-group settings for campus orientation, campus connection events, and academic engagement.
• Provide mentoring and modeling for students in the ACCESS program on how to engage in college academics, systems, and the larger NSCC community.
• Assist in developing/implementing systems to manage/measure the effectiveness of programs.
• Perform administrative tasks associated with department activities.
• Refer students to other offices/agencies as appropriate and assist in navigating pathways for students to access those services/programs.
• Communicate with other departments, faculty members, students, school officials, career/vocational counselors, community groups, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals to coordinate activities, review work status, exchange information, or resolve problems.
• Assist in coordinating/implementing joint ventures between the college and community groups by helping to host events and organizing community outreach programs in efforts to identify and connect with new and established target populations and agencies/businesses.
• Maintain professional knowledge of applicable state, federal, and local laws/regulations to support students in inclusive post-secondary education.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, Organizational Behavior, Sociology, Liberal Arts, or closely related field.
• Two (2) years experience and/or training involving public education, higher education, academic advisement, or customer service; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National Background Check as a condition of employment.

Schedule

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday 8:00 AM–2:00 PM (18 hours per week) with some flexibility.

Pay

$36.55 per hour.
