PAROLE AND PROBATON INTAKE REVIEWER
Main Purpose
The main purpose of this position is making Maryland communities safer through proactive community supervision of supervised individuals utilizing a strategy that focuses on criminogenic needs. This includes investigating and reporting, testing and referring supervised individuals, identifying and partnering with community resources, informing and supporting victims of crime, and collecting ordered monies.
Position Duties
- Investigating and reporting on supervised individuals.
- Testing and referring supervised individuals.
- Identifying and partnering with community resources.
- Informing and supporting victims of crime.
- Collecting ordered monies.
- Interviewing supervised individuals who are: placed on probation by the courts; released on parole by the Maryland Parole Commission; released from prison on mandatory supervision release; or on supervision.
- Interacting with individuals who are often angry, confrontational, and resistant to questioning.
- Reading and thoroughly explaining to supervised individuals all of the general and special conditions of supervision/monitoring.
- Accurately and completely entering required information into the Offender Based State Correctional Information System (OBSCIS II).
- Explaining to supervised individuals the requirements for reporting to the agent/monitor for the first time.
- Gathering information from a variety of documents and information systems about each supervised individual to build a thorough case file for an agent/monitor to begin supervising/monitoring the case.
- Assisting in the assessment of supervision level and/or initial referrals for treatment in some jurisdictions.
- Inputting accurate and complete data in OBSCIS II informational systems in order to timely open offender cases and livescan/fingerprinting.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
- One year of experience interviewing offenders and processing parole and probation documents.
Desired Or Preferred Qualifications
- Experience interviewing supervised individuals (probation, parole, or similar).
- Experience where you interacted with individuals who were confrontational or resistant.
- Experience entering case information into criminal justice or case-management systems.
