About the role

Pima County Shooting Sports at the Southeast Regional Park (SERP) is seeking a Parks Technician I to join their team. This position performs routine trades or craftsman duties above the Trade Maintenance Helper level, maintaining and repairing park facilities, grounds, and equipment. Additionally, the position participates in construction or renovation activities in parks.

Responsibilities

  • Cuts, trims, edges, seeds, fertilizes, stripes ball fields and leisure turf;
  • Structurally prunes, shapes, and maintains urban forest and ground vegetation;
  • Performs minor repairs and adjustments to plumbing and irrigation systems;
  • Operates ride-on equipment and utilizes powered maintenance and construction equipment/tools;
  • Performs operator-level inspections, servicing, maintenance, and security of assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles;
  • Applies paints, varnish, stains, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures;
  • Stores, handles, applies, and disposes of hazardous materials required to complete work or generated by work assignments;
  • Collects and disposes of trash;
  • Maintains and uses safety and personal protective equipment;
  • Explains rules, regulations, or procedures to the public and/or vendors.

Requirements

  • Six months of experience performing duties in landscape, grounds maintenance, arborist, equipment operator, general handyman, or similar duties in a specific skill, craft, vocation, trade, or operational area of employment.
  • Three months of experience within Pima County as a Parks Helper or other helper level position.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one (1) year experience working at a public shooting range and/or shooting sports program.
  • Minimum six (6) months of construction experience in the building repair and maintenance of target holding equipment, including archery targets.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in a customer service role.

Skills

The ideal candidate should have the ability to perform a variety of tasks, including cutting, trimming, and maintaining park facilities, as well as operating various equipment and tools. They should also possess strong communication skills to explain rules and regulations to the public.
