Description Duties
- Perform trail maintenance such as improving drainage, leveling treads, removing hazard trees, and performing general upkeep.
- Construct new trails, stone structures, small bridges, boardwalks, staircases, and signage.
- Operate and maintain shared state vehicles, hand tools, power tools, and some small equipment.
- Remove hazards such as risk trees, fallen trees, and debris using chainsaws or other tools.
Qualifications
- No Minimum Qualifications Per Civil Service.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.
- Must have the ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor and to lift a minimum of 80 lbs.
- Must have the ability to work on uneven and steep terrain.
- Must be able to operate small, motorized equipment, including utility terrain vehicles (UTVs) and skid steers.
- Must travel to other parks within the region to meet the operational needs of the position.
Additional Comments
- Experience with outdoor labor, particularly tree work, trail maintenance, and construction or any of the following: dry stone masonry, carpentry, landscaping, general construction.
- Experience operating a chainsaw.
- NYS OPRHP Sawyer and CPR/First Aid training will be provided.
- Experience operating equipment such as skid steers, mini-excavators, UTVs.
