Traffic and Parking Services (TAPS) at UC Santa Cruz supports the university's mission by ensuring access to the campus, managing finances, and overseeing sustainable transportation programs. TAPS is dedicated to being innovative, sustainable, and customer-focused.
Responsibilities
- Patrol campus and state parking lots and roads on foot and in a vehicle, enforcing parking rules and regulations.
- Evaluate situations to take appropriate action such as writing citations or issuing warnings.
- Identify parking-related issues and suggest improvements.
- Generate citations using a handheld electronic device.
- Write and hand-write forms legibly and accurately.
- Identify and immobilize vehicles with excessive unpaid citations or have them towed.
- Photograph vehicles and document incidents.
- Testify in court if needed.
- Assist with traffic and pedestrian flow, directing traffic and providing information.
- Respond to radio calls following radio etiquette.
- Identify and mitigate unsafe conditions or health risks.
- Post barricades and temporary signs as directed.
- Participate in large campus events by assisting with special traffic routes and parking logistics.
Requirements
- Knowledge of standard computing tools including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, email, and online calendaring systems.
- Ability to operate a handheld, two-way radio with effective communication and information reception.
- Parking enforcement experience including inspecting vehicles for permits and issuing citations.
- Decision-making and problem-solving skills with minimum supervision.
- Effective teamwork and interpersonal skills with diverse communities.
- Attention to detail and clear, accurate, and legible writing.
- Knowledge of UC-Santa Cruz parking regulations and permit requirements.
- Time management and efficient work initiation.
- Ability to operate a handheld citation device.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training and experience preferred.
- Knowledge of California Vehicle Codes.
- Ability to set and achieve goals consistently with the Department, Division of Finance, Operations and Administration, and University vision statements and goals.

The budgeted salary for this role is $30.44/hour.
Schedule
The position is full-time, fixed percentage of time: 100%, 40 hours per week. Days of the week: Mon-Sun, TBD. Shift includes: Day, Evenings, Weekends.
