Park Supervisor 2 (NY HELPS) - Thompson's Lake Campground
Under the direction of the Park Manager and Assistant Park Manager, this role plans, coordinates, and oversees maintenance and operations at Thompson's Lake Campground.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and perform administrative duties, including preparing reports on attendance, personnel, and work progress.
- Report operational needs to management and submit regional work orders as needed.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate park events and routine programs; create new programs and continue existing ones to enhance the camper experience.
- Work with park managers to develop an annual budget and monitor expenditures.
- Issue special use permits and coordinate with outside organizations for public and private events.
- Create and manage work schedules for staff.
- Ensure compliance with water safety programs, water monitoring programs, and HABS reporting protocols.
- Coordinate and document required safety training, equipment training, and ensure staff familiarity with emergency response procedures.
- Monitor inventory and requisition materials, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- During winter months, assist John Boyd Thacher State Park Managers with administrative and clerical duties, plan and implement campground maintenance projects, and assist in interviewing and hiring seasonal employees.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). To be considered, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Four years of experience in the construction, operation, or maintenance of a park, recreational facility, or campus; one year of this experience must be at a supervisory level.
- OR an associate's or higher-level degree (or 60 college semester credit hours) AND two years of experience as described above, with one year at a supervisory level.
A park, recreational facility, or campus is defined as a location offering at least three of the following: athletic fields, skating rink, campgrounds, golf courses, hiking trails, historic structures, marinas, picnic areas, playgrounds, recreation programs, swimming facilities, or education, environmental, or interpretive programming.
Appropriate part-time and volunteer experience may be accepted and prorated if verifiable.
Your degree must be awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If your degree was awarded outside the United States, independent verification of equivalency is required.
Skills
- Valid driver’s license allowing legal operation of a motor vehicle in New York State.
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including holidays, weekends, and occasional evenings.
- Strong written communication skills and ability to read and comprehend written material.
- Ability to delegate tasks to subordinate staff and follow up to ensure completion.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
