Park & Recreation Ranger 6-E8 (Van Riper State Park)

About the role

This position participates in the day-to-day work activities of the unit, assisting the Unit Supervisor/Lead Ranger in various administrative tasks with minimal supervision. The employee performs operational and maintenance duties related to Parks and Recreation Division-administered facilities, trains and guides staff, maintains grounds, infrastructure, and equipment, and ensures personal and public safety.

Attendance at the Parks and Recreation Division Law Enforcement Academy and Ranger Operations Academy is required. These trainings typically total 12 weeks, involve overnight stays, and focus on physical incident handling, Parks & Recreation rules, and park operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Unit Supervisor/Lead Ranger in administrative tasks
• Perform operational and maintenance duties for Parks and Recreation facilities
• Train and provide guidance to staff
• Maintain grounds, infrastructure, and equipment
• Ensure personal, co-worker, and public safety
• Obtain and maintain a DNR Law Enforcement Commission
• Complete required law enforcement and ranger operations training
• Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required)
• Experience requirements vary by level:
  • Park and Recreation Ranger 6: No specific experience required
  • Park and Recreation Ranger 7: One year of experience in a park, recreation setting, or construction trades
  • Park and Recreation Ranger E8: Two years of park and recreation experience, including one year equivalent to a Park and Recreation Ranger 7
• Completion of college credits in natural resources, park management, or outdoor recreation may substitute for experience:
  • 8 semester (12 term) credits may substitute for one year of experience
  • 15 semester (22 term) credits may substitute for two years of experience
