Park Maintenance Foreman

About the role

Under direction of the Park Operations Supervisor, the Park Maintenance Foreman leads the work activities of maintenance personnel on municipal parks, public grounds, and athletic areas during normal and emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and supervise the work activities of assigned maintenance personnel in various grounds maintenance and special event preparation.
• Maintain accurate daily record of job assignments, performance, timekeeping, materials and equipment through a software management system.
• Hire, train, and instruct new crew members in park maintenance policies and procedures.
• Procure supplies, materials, and contracted services in accordance with established purchasing policies, procedures, and budget guidelines.
• Prepare written and oral reports related to budget, activities, and employee performance.
• Operate and train others in the proper use of various types of equipment including hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, and trucks.
• Perform general construction and maintenance duties while complying with established safety standards.
• Prioritize constantly changing workload to effectively utilize resources.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and repairs for tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Read blueprints and construction documents to ensure compliance with established standards on repairs and capital projects for maintenance and construction.
• Participate in on-the-job and skill-based training to meet team and department goals and objectives.
• Respond to and supervise emergency maintenance operations during inclement weather and other emergency events, including after-hours and weekend callouts as required.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Completion of high school diploma or the equivalent
• Three years of experience supervising construction or maintenance activities
• Possession of Class A Commercial Driver’s license, or ability to obtain within 1 year
• Valid Current Driver's License
• Physical Exam Required

Preferred

• Aquatic Facility Operators License
• Texas Department of Agriculture applicators license

Knowledge and Abilities

Knowledge of:

• Principles and practices of the maintenance of municipal park grounds, shorelines, and public trails
• Proper maintenance of stormwater infrastructure, including storm drains, culverts, ditches, and erosion control practices
• Dock repair and maintenance
• Safe operation and maintenance of light and heavy equipment, including but not limited to backhoes, skid steers, excavators, tractors, mowers, trailers and chainsaws
• Occupational safety regulations, safe work practices, and applicable local, state, and federal environmental and workplace safety requirements
• Supervisory principles and practices, including employee training, work planning, scheduling, performance management, and team development
• Basic budgeting, inventory control, purchasing procedures, and recordkeeping practices related to maintenance operations

• Supervising, training, and evaluating maintenance personnel while promoting a safe and productive work environment
• Planning, organizing, prioritizing, and coordinating maintenance projects and daily work assignments
• Identifying maintenance needs, evaluating field conditions, and implementing effective solutions

• Using computers and maintenance management software to prepare reports, maintain records, and manage work activities
