The Parent Partner/Peer Specialist provides support and resources to parents/caregivers to promote successful home placement. They engage, inspire, and facilitate meaningful conversations with clients to assist in exploring, creating, and meeting their goals. The role ensures the parent’s voice and choice is respected and implemented throughout treatment, empowering parents/caregivers to achieve self-sufficiency and independence while providing coaching and support for interventions and activities.

Program Description

The San Bernardino Wraparound program is a community-based, family-centered, needs-driven program designed to maintain children with emotional disturbances in the community at the lowest level of care possible. The goal is to reduce the risk of out-of-home placement and recidivism by bringing individuals, agencies, and the community together as a decision-making team, focusing on meeting the needs of the child and family. Services support the mental health needs of children and their families, ensuring safe and appropriate care while promoting coordination and collaboration in care planning with the Children and Family Team (CFT) and other child-serving agencies.

Responsibilities

• Listen to and assess parents’ needs and provide relevant interventions, resources, and support.
• Serve as a support person and advocate for parents during Children and Family Team meetings.
• Ensure sensitivity to family culture, values, and beliefs, operating from a family-centered, strength-based perspective.
• Maintain proficient and accurate documentation adhering to all program and contract standards.
• Work in coordination with the client’s multidisciplinary team, including county representatives and schools, in the development and execution of the treatment plan.
• Participate in all required meetings.
• Develop and utilize knowledge of community resources to serve children and their families.
• Perform other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

• Valid CA driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance.
• Completion of CPR/First Aid/ProACT certification within the first thirty (30) days of employment.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

• Tier II: High school diploma/GED + 2 years related work experience or AA Degree.
• Tier III: High school diploma/GED + 4 years related experience or AA Degree + 2 years related work experience or Certified Peer Specialist.
• Tier IV: High school diploma or GED + 6 years related experience or AA Degree + 4 years related experience or Certified Peer Specialist + 2 years of experience.

Skills

• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Outlook.
• Knowledge of crisis management skills and ability to perform them as necessary.
• Ability to remain organized and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Able to establish and maintain appropriate rapport with parents/caregivers.
• Knowledge of parenting techniques, child development, and/or the Child Welfare system.
• Able to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to drive a motor vehicle without restrictions, often in heavy traffic and frequently for long distances (one hour or more) to ensure safe transport to client settings and to safely transport clients to appointments as needed.
• Senses of vision, hearing, and smell sufficient to regularly operate a motor vehicle, visualize threats in the environment or risks to clients, and operate safely in the field.
• Required to occasionally lift and carry 10-20 pounds.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, climb stairs (1 or more flights), and walk while in route to and during family visits.
• Regularly required to sit and use a computer in office settings.

Pay

$22.00 - $25.00 hourly.
