Parent Engagement Specialist (Volunteer)
Mentor A Promise is a New York City–based nonprofit dedicated to serving children and youth (ages 5–18) experiencing housing instability. We provide consistent, high-quality programming in mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, and creative expression, fostering a supportive environment where students can grow and build lasting skills.
About the role
The Parent Engagement Specialist (Volunteer) serves as a consistent, compassionate point of contact for parents and guardians across MAP programs. This role involves distributing, collecting, and tracking parent and student questionnaires, conducting ongoing outreach, and sharing insights that strengthen program delivery.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians
- Distribute, collect, and track parent and student questionnaires
- Conduct ongoing outreach to parents throughout the program year, including updates, reminders, and feedback requests
- Maintain organized records of parent communications and responses
- Share insights, trends, and concerns with the Director and Program Team
- Support clear, timely, and respectful communication with families
- Maintain timely, professional responsiveness via email and chat in Google Workspace
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Comfort working with families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Able to handle sensitive information with care and confidentiality
- Reliable and consistent in follow-through
- Alignment with MAP’s mission and dignity-centered values
Preferred Skills
- Experience in family engagement, education, or community-based programs
- Experience collecting or organizing survey or questionnaire data
- Familiarity with youth-serving or nonprofit environments
- Bilingual or multilingual skills (a plus)
- Comfort collaborating with program and administrative teams
Commitment
This is a volunteer role with approximately 5–10 hours per week, minimum 6-month commitment preferred. It is fully remote with optional NYC-based collaboration.
