Parent Advocate

About the role

This position is focused on providing support and advocacy for parents involved in the foster care system. It is a full-time role located in Bronx, NY, requiring engagement with families and foster care teams to facilitate effective planning and support for parents. Flexibility and community engagement are key aspects of this role.

Responsibilities

• Provide support and advocacy for parents involved in the foster care system.
• Engage with families and foster care teams to facilitate effective planning and support for parents.
• Work within families' communities to ensure culturally sensitive and supportive services.
• Coordinate with foster care teams to ensure comprehensive support for parents.
• Maintain healthy boundaries and confidentiality while providing emotional support and encouragement to parents.

Requirements

• Experience as a parent whose children were in foster care, with a minimum of 2 years beyond services.
• Ability to work with families within their communities.
• Willingness to learn and practice engagement skills with families.
• Computer literacy is a plus.
• Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.

Qualifications

• Experience in parent advocate training through relevant agencies is a plus.
• Ability to coordinate with foster care teams effectively.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide emotional support and encouragement to parents.
