Full-time, non-exempt position (35 hours/week) at Lincoln Elementary School, reporting to the School Principal.

About the Role

The Paraprofessional assists full-time teachers by reinforcing classroom materials and lessons to facilitate student learning. This role coordinates with the Student Services Director, School Administrators, Teachers, Interventionists, other school support staff, students, parents, and the community.

Term: Works all days of student attendance requiring paraprofessional services as determined by the Board of Education, plus occasional non-student attendance days such as Teacher Institute Days and School Improvement Days.

Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the lead teacher in classroom instruction and management.
  • Assists with classroom activities and lessons.
  • Works with individual students who require additional or modified instruction.
  • Administers assessments and quizzes to students.
  • Grades tests and homework and completes other clerical work related to classroom operations.
  • Prepares communication folders to be sent home with students.
  • Monitors students when the lead teacher is out of the classroom.
  • Escorts students to other areas of the school (cafeteria, playground, gym, or other classrooms) and monitors behavior during recess and lunchtime.
  • Assists with student drop-off and pickup.
  • Administers student assistance in hygiene, food consumption, complex special needs, or complex medical devices as necessary.
  • Manages calendars and schedules appointments.
  • Monitors halls, study periods, and lunch with other faculty and staff.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities as necessary.
  • Attends work as scheduled and arrives in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma.
  • Must hold or obtain a Paraprofessional Educator Licence (PARA) within the first year of employment.
  • Must complete paraprofessional training through the District within the first year of employment.
  • Associate’s degree and three years of previous experience in a related role are highly preferred.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Thorough understanding of classroom procedures and management.
  • Ability to relate to children and reinforce lessons taught in class.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to collaborate with the lead teacher.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to navigate all areas of the school quickly, including indoor and outdoor areas.
  • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout the school and classroom.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
  • Must be able to kneel, sit, stand, crawl, push, and pull to assist and teach children throughout the day.
  • Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork.
