About the role
The Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing, college-preparatory K–8 charter schools serving primarily low-income communities. As a Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Assistant), you will play a vital role in supporting teachers and ensuring all students have the tools they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Support lead Teachers in delivering instruction by assisting with lesson activities, classroom management, and transitions.
- Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to reinforce skills, reteach concepts, and support individualized learning plans.
- Aid in maintaining a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and engagement.
- Substitute for lead teachers as needed to ensure learning continues uninterrupted.
- Prepare instructional materials, set up classroom resources, and assist with grading or documentation as directed.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of students.
Required Qualifications & Competencies
- A High School Diploma or equivalent and successful completion of the paraprofessional exam, OR an Associate’s degree (or higher).
- Previous experience working with children in an educational or youth-focused setting.
Preferred
- Bilingual in English and Spanish.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
