Paraprofessional (Special Education Instructional Aide) IC

Requirements

• High school diploma
• Ability to work harmoniously with students and teachers
• Experience in organizational skills
• Knowledge of and/or experience with computers (preferred but not required)

Credentials must comply with all federal and state laws and regulations governing individuals in this position.

Responsibilities

• Work with students assigned to receive instructional support either in the resource room or regular classroom
• Perform clerical duties as assigned
• Respond to teacher's needs for in-class and/or small group assistance
• Assist teacher in maintenance of program resources
• Conduct reading, language, math, and other groups while allowing for individual differences
• Review Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs) with the teacher and perform necessary duties to fulfill the goals and objectives
• Participate in the inclusion of special needs children in the regular classroom
• Utilize instructional materials, learning activities, and techniques as directed by the teacher
• Develop rapport with assigned students and encourage positive self-esteem
• Use teaching techniques appropriate to meet student needs as directed by the teacher
• Maintain classroom routine and order when the teacher leaves the classroom; discuss student discipline concerns directly with the attending teacher
• Perform non-teaching/clerical duties as requested by the teacher and agreed to by the building principal
• Perform non-teaching/clerical duties as requested by the administration
• Participate in building-level committees, programs, and district-level workshops/inservice programs as assigned by the administration
• Perform additional responsibilities as determined by the building principal
