About the role
Provide instructional assistance to students under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Help meet physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in self-contained units and regular classrooms.
Responsibilities
- Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs.
- Assist in preparing, conducting, and managing classroom activities.
- Operate school vehicles and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on assigned route(s) to and from other designated locations.
- Ride buses and help driver ensure safe and orderly transportation of students.
Requirements
- High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate
- Valid Texas educational aide certificate
- Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and/or School Bus (S) endorsements
Skills
- Must be 18 years of age
- Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
- Ability to manage student behavior
- Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses
- Ability to communicate effectively with others
Qualifications
Some experience working with children is preferred.
