Description

The purpose of this position is to provide for the implementation of a contracted career transition pathway for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT), or Advanced EMTs, whether full-time, part-time, or part-time temporary, to become a certified Paramedic through the NC Office of EMS. The EMT will attend the in-house learning academy, clinical assignments, and clinical ambulance rides, as prescribed until all requirements have been completed and the EMT has obtained Paramedic certification. Will work under the direct supervision of the Training Officer and/or assigned EMS supervisor(s).

Minimum Education And Experience

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Current EMT or Advanced EMT certification through the NC Office of EMS

Special Comments

Attends all required didactic training, clinical training, and observation training as required and prescribed by the Paramedic Academy program.

Will follow all requirements of the academy to include attendance and clinical requirements as prescribed in the program curriculum and rules.

Will continue to function at the basic EMT and Advanced EMT levels and all functional requirements listed in those job descriptions:

  • Responds to emergency calls, providing basic and advanced life support treatment to patients, as well as transportation to appropriate medical facility.
  • Obtains patient medical history if possible; assesses physical condition of patients and assists in making decisions regarding proper courses of action.
  • Performs such duties as CPR, splint application, wound treatment, control of bleeding, monitoring, and relaying of vital signs, oxygen administration, calculations and administration of medications, defibrillation, intubation, intravenous infusions of fluids, sterile suctioning, and blood sugar checks.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of patients for transport, ensuring compliance with emergency medical transport regulations, protocol, and procedure.
  • Learns, guides, and/or assists in the training of lower-level technicians and/or students.
  • Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
  • Participates in a continuous training program to improve competence in medical technician work and in ambulance service and operation; studies street and road patterns and networks of the county in order that future runs may be made with minimum difficulty and delay.
  • Keeps up-to-date with job related innovations, including but not limited to, protocols, policies, procedures, new trends, equipment and technological changes.
  • Abides by, enforces, and participates in the implementation of and ongoing oversight of Randolph County Government safety standards and regulations.
  • Assists in the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) when activated and/or required.
