Minimum Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Experience: Six (6) months of paramedic-EMT experience.
- Licenses/Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
- Current Arizona Emergency Medical Technician Certification to the Paramedic level (National Registry preferred) required.
- Crisis Prevention Instruction (CPI) certification required within 6 months of hire.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification required within three months of hire for TMC Rincon only.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of EMT-Paramedic best practices.
- Skills in performing emergency assistance such as first aid, bandaging and splinting, applying artificial respiration or administering oxygen in cases of suffocation and asphyxiation.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to listen and accurately interpret others’ communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers; and ability to read a clock and accurately document time.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Essential Functions
- Maintains direct and general patient care, provides on-going patient assessments and implements appropriate intervention, under Emergency Department (ED) Physician or intermediary staff orders.
- Administers IV medications during a procedure, under the direction of an ED physician, and in accordance with established protocols.
- Affirms patient’s status pre, during and post procedure and communicates accurately and timely any concerns or changes to ED Physician or intermediary staff.
- Takes vital signs, weighs patients, collects routine urine specimens, cleans catch specimens, stool specimens, and sputum specimens in accordance with established procedures.
- Administers and controls State approved medications; prepares, hangs, monitors and discontinues intravenous fluids.
- Applies/administers O2 flow as prescribed by ED Physician.
- Assists physicians and nursing staff with procedures utilizing aseptic/sterile techniques including but not limited to IV set-up, intubation, suturing, arterial lines, and chest tubes.
- Cleans and prepares rooms between procedures and after discharges; monitors and restocks supplies.
- Collects information through history, physical examination and records ensuring information is accurately documented and reported.
- Takes care of the body after death.
- Cooperates with other personnel to achieve department objectives and maintains good employee relations, interdepartmental objectives, and infection control policies.
- Adheres to TMC organizational and department-specific safety, confidentiality, values, policies and standards.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
