About the Role
The crew member who acts as the patient care attendant is responsible for all aspects of patient care, beginning with preparation of the patient compartment of the ambulance at the start of the shift.
Responsibilities
- Arrival for tour of duty
- Preparation of the patient compartment
- Cleaning the patient compartment and equipment
- Completing the inventory check sheet
- Ensuring compliance with State regulations and OSHA regulations
- Treatment of patients according to protocols
- Transporting and monitoring patients
- Completing patient care records and company paperwork
- Maintaining professional demeanor and courteous interaction
- Returning the ambulance to the garage and reporting issues
Requirements
- New York State Certified EMT Paramedic Card
- REMSCO/REMAC Paramedic Certification
- New York State drivers license (if required)

Additional Responsibilities
- Completes required in-service training
- Maintains state and local certification
- Inventories and services ALS supplies and drugs
- Ensures assigned ambulance is equipped in accordance with regulations
- Performs ALS patient care in accordance with protocols
- Records patient care on proper forms
State Inspections
- Ambulances are subject to inspection by State EMS office without advance notice
- Crew must notify dispatcher immediately and cooperate fully with inspector
- Violations require supervisor approval before accepting another patient
