About the role
As a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse), you will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. You will work under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational matters and under the management of the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment is required. You will also provide center-level support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Determine donor eligibility, including management of informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate and manage donor reactions as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing Center Physician’s standing orders and arranging donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
- Support Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health or emergency services is required.
- Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats in the local community.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, including completion of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned (e.g., EMT-Paramedic).
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Satisfactorily complete FDA-approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
Pay
U.S. hourly wage range: $23.04 – $31.68. The actual hourly wage offered may depend on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location. This position may also be eligible for short-term incentives.
