About the role
You will report to the Plasma Center Manager and perform as a Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) to support plasma center operations. You will determine donor eligibility to donate plasma, manage donor adverse events, review laboratory test results, and notify donors of unsuitable test results. The role works under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational matters and the Center Physician for medical issues. You will be familiar with regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment and follow guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs for environmental, health, and safety (EHS).
Responsibilities
- Determine donor eligibility, including management of informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate donor reactions occurring at the facility as outlined in the SOPs.
- Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing the Center Physician's standing orders and arranging donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
- Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees as applicable.
- Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health/ER is required.
- Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS and support investigations related to pandemic threats in the local community.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, including graduation from a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned (e.g., EMT-Paramedic).
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Satisfactorily complete the FDA-approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
Schedule
Our schedule typically runs from 30 minutes before opening to one hour after closing, offering flexible shifts throughout the week.
- Center Hours:
- Monday: Closed
- Tuesday–Thursday: 6 AM – 7 PM
- Friday: 6 AM – 6 PM
- Saturday-Sunday: 7 AM – 3 PM
Positions available for full-time or part-time with open availability.
Pay
U.S. Hourly Wage Range: $24.32 - $33.44. The estimated range reflects an anticipated range for this position. The actual hourly wage offered may depend on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location. The wage will comply with state or local minimum wage requirements.
