Paramedic - Critical Care Transport - PRN

About the role

Lead Paramedics help provide advanced medical care to patients. Individuals must have the complex knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. Paramedics may need to assist and give direction to additional EMS Responders at the scene and/or during transport.

In addition to the Paramedic responsibilities, the Lead Paramedic will be the key contact for EMS while on scene. The individual will help provide support for management and staff. The Lead Paramedic will assist with monitoring productivity and tracking Emergency Medical Services (EMS). This individual will also assist management in the EMS Operations which will include but not be limited to: assisting with keeping up with regulations, licensing, staffing, staff education, equipment maintenance, finance, and quality assurance as needed. The Lead Paramedic will act as a formal resource for the EMS staff. Individuals will assist with patient care in the receiving facility; lifting and moving patients as required.

Physical activities include but are not limited to considerable use of arms and legs and moving of the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Paramedics should attend training classes to maintain national certification, state licensure, and keep abreast of new developments in the field, or maintain existing knowledge. Provide a welcoming and educational environment for students and complete any academic assessments in a timely manner.

Depending on the location of the position, work hours will vary depending on patient needs. This may include overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide advanced medical care and transportation to patients.
• Assist and direct additional EMS Responders at the scene and/or during transport.
• Act as the key contact for EMS while on scene.
• Support management and staff, monitor productivity, and track EMS operations.
• Assist with regulations, licensing, staffing, staff education, equipment maintenance, finance, and quality assurance.
• Serve as a formal resource for EMS staff.
• Assist with patient care in the receiving facility, including lifting and moving patients.
• Maintain national certification and state licensure through ongoing training.
• Provide a welcoming and educational environment for students and complete academic assessments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate Degree in Paramedic Technology or Paramedicine preferred.
• A minimum of two years of experience as a paramedic in an Ambulance setting.
• Thorough knowledge of paramedic principles, practices, and techniques.
• Knowledge of how various equipment such as a monitor or defibrillator work and how to troubleshoot problems.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• National registry status at a Paramedic level, depending on location.
• State license as required.
• Additional licensures as required by state, including Paramedic (PAR) Certification, National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) 100, 200, and 700, and continued education hours as mandated by accreditation.
• Current certifications in Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent, advanced version for paramedics, International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred depending on location.
• Must possess a valid Driver's License and have a good driving record.

Pay

$25.20 - $38.50 per hour

Schedule

• PRN (as needed)
• Varied shifts (12 hours)
• Overtime, call, backup call, nights, days, weekends, and holidays may be required.
