Paramedic

About the Role

As a Paramedic, you will provide advanced emergency medical care and transport to critically ill or injured patients in pre-hospital and inter-facility settings. You will rapidly assess scenes, evaluate conditions, and administer life-saving interventions while safely operating emergency vehicles and documenting care. The role requires expert clinical skills, exceptional critical thinking under stress, and compassionate communication to ensure optimal patient outcomes. You will work under physician medical oversight, adhering to the scope of practice provided by the National EMS Scope of Practice Model and outlined by the Kentucky Board of Emergency Medical Services, while aligning with functions set forth by CHI Saint Joseph Health.

Responsibilities

• Administers BLS, PALS, ACLS, and critical care interventions following physician orders and supervision.
• Performs triage, assessments, interventions, and patient education as needed.
• Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records in a timely manner.
• Promotes patient independence by establishing rapport, setting care goals, and educating patients, friends, and family about conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
• Provides emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to create a compassionate care environment.

Requirements

• High School GED or High School Diploma upon hire.
• Graduate from a nationally or state-approved accrediting paramedic program.
• 2 years of experience as a paramedic in high-volume patient care, with approved Critical Care endorsement, previous aeromedical, or clinical ER experience.
• Must successfully complete an approved Critical Care Paramedic course and pass the IBSC CCP-C or FP-C exam during the orientation period. CHI Saint Joseph Health covers the exam fee for the first passing attempt; failed attempts are the individual’s responsibility. Employment concludes after a third unsuccessful attempt if certification standards are not met.
• After obtaining CCP-C or FP-C, must apply for and obtain Advanced Practice Paramedic Licensure from the Kentucky Board of EMS.

Qualifications

• Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic: KY (upon hire).
• Basic Life Support - CPR (upon hire).
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (within 90 days).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (within 6 months).
• Critical Care Paramedic or Flight Paramedic-Certified (within 90 days).

$25.42 - $37.82 per hour.
