About the role
As a Medical Support Specialist, you will support plasma center operations by determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. You will work under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational matters and the Center Physician for medical issues. Familiarity with plasma collection industry regulations or a manufacturing environment is required. You will also support environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives as guided by BioLife Medical Affairs.
Responsibilities
- Determine donor eligibility, including management of informed consent, AIDS education, confidential self-exclusion, medical history interview, physical examination, blood testing, and reviewing Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE).
- Evaluate and manage donor reactions as outlined in Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Follow SOPs for medical emergencies, including developing Center Physician’s standing orders and arranging donor transport to emergency care facilities.
- Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on medical or technical issues, including donor safety and eligibility.
- Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
- Manage employee incidents and determine if further evaluation by occupational health or emergency services is required.
- Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS, supporting investigations related to pandemic threats in the local community.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, including completion of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
- Current state licensure or certification as one of the following: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-B, EMT-A, EMT-I, EMT-P), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN/LVN), or Registered Nurse (RN).
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) certification.
- Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy.
- Satisfactory completion of FDA-approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
- Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
Pay
U.S. hourly wage range: $25.60 - $35.20. The actual hourly wage offered may depend on qualifications, experience, skills, education, certifications, and job location. The position is eligible for short-term incentives.
