About the role

The United States Attorney's Office for the District of Maine seeks a Paralegal Specialist in our Criminal Division. The position is located in Bangor, Maine, a vibrant city known for its natural beauty and rich history.

Responsibilities

  • Help prepare a variety of legal documents including extradition requests, grand jury and trial subpoenas, interrogatory requests, and documentation relevant to acquiring evidence or testimony.
  • Provide advice on the most efficient method for preparing legal documents.
  • Use tables and citation checking with efficiency.
  • Develop and enter various case material into a computer database.
  • Prepare charts, graphs, and tables to illustrate results.
  • Prepare, develop, compile, or maintain jury instructions in preparing for trial.
  • Prepare exhibits for trial, which typically involve a wide range of visual materials.
  • Provide litigation case management and organize cases for court presentation.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Your initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication, including fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing.
  • Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • To qualify at GS-07, you must meet at least one of the following conditions: specialized experience, education, or a combination of education and experience.
  • To qualify at GS-09, you must meet at least one of the following conditions: specialized experience, education, or a combination of education and experience.
  • To qualify at GS-11, you must meet at least one of the following conditions: specialized experience, education, or a combination of education and experience.

Qualifications

  • GS-07: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level.
  • GS-09: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level.
  • GS-11: One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level.
