This paralegal position supports the Real Estate and Transactions Teams for the Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) and affiliated entities and reports to the Director of MUHA Legal Affairs and the MUSC General Counsel. The ideal candidate will be organized and detail-oriented with experience in both high-volume real estate leasing and purchasing matters, as well as corporate formations, maintenance, and strategic transactions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist attorneys and senior staff within the Office of General Counsel in preparing and reviewing contracts, leases, loan documents, disclosure schedules, and title documents for a wide range of real estate and business assets.
  • Organize, review, and analyze legal documents and due diligence materials.
  • Prepare and organize legal documents and process approvals and signatures for transaction closings.
  • Master cutting-edge software and workflow processes to aid in information retention and recovery.
  • Conduct research regarding routine legal questions as requested by attorneys within the Office of General Counsel.
  • Coordinate and serve as liaison between the legal department and other health system departments to assist with legal or risk-related issues; maintain appropriate electronic files to track such issues.
  • Provide administrative support, including backup administrative tasks, scheduling, telephone support, processing mail, procurement of supplies and services, and reviewing incoming accounts payable.
  • Anticipate administrative needs without direction and work independently.
  • Perform various legal support tasks, including preparation of documents, letters, and memoranda for the Director of Legal Affairs or other attorneys; coordinate service of and legal response from affected departments.
  • Review, prepare, or coordinate preparation, service, and/or acceptance of appropriate documents or information in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance under appropriate attorney supervision on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and advanced coursework or certification in paralegal studies.
  • Minimum of five years of transactional real estate and/or business experience.
  • Experience in a higher education, healthcare, or government setting.
