Position Overview
Provide assistance to the legal staff in carrying out the corporate legal mandates; Assure the day-to-day flow of documents and information, support in-house attorneys, outside counsel, and Risk Management team. Develop and administer control systems and procedures for corporate use in monitoring legal activities.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities
- Perform legal and factual research, prepare analyses, summaries, and review research of others prior to attorney review
- Perform legal holds and preservation, collection and production of documents, including without limitations, electronically stored information
- Serve as liaison between Legal Department and internal departments, including Service Center Leadership, Human Resources, Safety, Security, Risk Management, Cargo Claims, Information Technology, etc.
- Aid attorneys and Risk Management team with communications to external entities, including government agencies, outside counsel, vendors, Third-Party Administrations and industry groups
- Draft legal documents and correspondence for review and approval by attorneys
- Prepare legal documents, including pleadings and discovery-related documents; accept and deliver documents on behalf of the company when presence of an attorney is not required, or with an attorney when appropriate
- Aid in planning, organizing, administering, and tracking programs and projects handled in legal department and risk management team
- Develop and conduct training programs for managers and company personnel regarding legal issues
- Work with all departments in the corporation to ensure timely handling and completion of company’s legal activities
- Process and review various legal documents and maintain activity log to assure prompt action by the appropriate corporate department
- Prepare articles pertaining to Legal Department’s activities for publication in company’s internal communication
- Respond to requests for information and advice
- Comply with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications
- Paralegal Degree or Paralegal Certificate from an accredited institution from the applicable state; or at least three years of relevant work experience can be substituted for this requirement if the candidate has a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline or area of study
- Five (5) years paralegal experience in a relevant discipline
- Comprehensive knowledge of Legal process and systems
- Excellent research and writing skills, strong organizational, collaboration, communication and computer skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize deadlines
- Ability to interact with all levels of leadership across FedEx Freight enterprise
- Experience and ability to use Microsoft Office Software, including but not limited to; Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience and ability to use legal data software for issuing legal holds and maintaining and reviewing electronically stored information
- Experience with trucking litigation preferred
Working Conditions
- Travel may be required
- Work hours may vary due to organizational need
Pay
- Pay Range: $24.48 - $44.04 per hour
- Colorado Pay Ranges: Colorado Springs, Grand Junction $26.18 - $39.27; Henderson, Mead $27.66 - $41.49; Gypsum $29.36 - $44.04
- Illinois Pay Ranges: East Moline, Effingham, Kankakee, Lincoln, Quincy, Rockford $26.18 - $39.27; Aurora, Bolingbrook, Chicago Heights, Des Plaines, Elmhurst, Forest View, Joliet, Schaumburg, Summit-Argo, Zion $29.36 - $44.04
- New York Pay Ranges: Plattsburgh, Buffalo, Watertown, North Chili, East Syracuse, Nichols $26.18 - $39.27; Bethpage, Montgomery, West Babylon $29.36 - $44.04
- New Jersey Job Postings: This compensation range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting pay range in NJ. If this opportunity includes multiple job levels, the range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary for the lowest level to the current starting salary of the highest level. Actual starting pay is determined by experience relative to the job, market level, specific location and other job-related factors permitted by law.
