Responsibilities
- Responds promptly and professionally to requests for assistance from property staff.
- Drafts, revises, interprets and explains commercial contracts.
- Drafts and revises housing agreements and other relevant real estate documents.
- Identifies and responds promptly and professionally to resident complaints, vendor disputes and regulatory matters, and elevates to attorneys as required.
- Serves as a liaison between property staff and the corporate office, communicating and implementing legal requirements and company policies.
- Supports property operations staff with clear and consistent information regarding legal- and policy-related situations involving residents, staff and vendors.
- Supports outside counsel on litigation matters.
- Collaborates with inside and outside counsel on entity and asset acquisitions.
- Identifies and addresses various reporting and compliance issues with lenders, partners and governmental bodies.
- Maintains compliance with vendor insurance requirements.
- Monitors and assists in resolution of insurance claims.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Staff Attorneys, by the Vice President of Legal Affairs and/or the General Counsel.
Requirements
- Paralegal certification and Associate's degree or greater is strongly preferred; 1-3 years of Paralegal experience in a law office, corporate legal department or other transactional practice is strongly preferred.
- A customer service orientation is essential.
- The ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Strong proficiency in commercial contract preparation and review is required.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of programs and comfortable operating in property management systems.
