We are looking for a detail-oriented Paralegal to support estate recovery matters for a respected firm serving government-sponsored health care programs in Brentwood, Tennessee. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent position is well suited for someone who enjoys legal research, document preparation, and coordinating case activity in a structured, compliance-driven environment.
About the role
The role offers the chance to work closely with attorneys and external parties while helping maintain accurate, timely progress across a portfolio of probate and chancery-related cases.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate estate recovery files to identify whether further legal action is financially worthwhile and consistent with applicable guidelines.
- Review case information to determine whether exemptions apply and document findings in accordance with federal and Tennessee requirements.
- Respond professionally to questions from heirs, attorneys, court personnel, administrators, and other outside contacts involved in assigned matters.
- Support attorneys with legal research, follow-up tasks, and project-based assistance tied to estate recovery activities.
- Draft legal documents, court filings, summonses, and written correspondence for matters moving through probate and chancery courts.
- Research and verify information related to heirs, creditors, claim amounts, and missing supporting records to keep files complete and accurate.
- Submit filings and related materials to the appropriate courts, while also requesting and processing payments associated with court costs.
- Maintain case calendars, monitor upcoming events, and coordinate hearing schedules in a way that improves coverage and operational efficiency.
- Keep current reference information for state courts, including filing procedures and fee details, to support smooth case administration.
Requirements
- Preferred 2+ years of experience as a paralegal.
- Active Notary Public required.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including strong working knowledge of Excel.
- Experience using research tools to perform asset or background searches is preferred.
- Strong data entry, typing, and organizational skills with a consistent focus on precision.
- Ability to review work independently, solve problems effectively, and communicate clearly with internal and external stakeholders.
- Must be available to work in Brentwood, TN.
