Paralegal
Job Summary
This position is ideal for a paralegal with a strong background in civil defense litigation. The successful candidate will assist attorneys with managing complex cases from inception through resolution, ensuring deadlines are met and files are meticulously maintained.
Primary Responsibilities
- Support attorneys in all phases of litigation, including case development, discovery, and trial preparation
- Draft and prepare legal documents such as pleadings, discovery responses, subpoenas, motions, and summaries
- Organize and analyze documentation including accident reports, medical records, insurance materials, and expert reports
- Manage case calendars, track court deadlines, and maintain attorney schedules
- Conduct legal and factual research related to liability and damages
- Communicate directly with clients, witnesses, experts, and opposing counsel
- Prepare exhibits, witness files, and other materials for depositions, mediations, and trial
- Assist with court filings, including Michigan State and Federal E-Filing procedures
- Maintain organized case files in both electronic and physical formats
- Assist with billing and time entry as needed
Qualifications
- 4+ years of paralegal experience in civil litigation
- Strong understanding of litigation procedure, court rules, and case management
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and case management software
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines under pressure
- High level of professionalism and discretion in handling confidential information
- Paralegal Certificate or degree in Legal Studies preferred
Working Conditions
This position is based in an office environment and may require occasional lifting of case files and supplies up to 20 lbs. It is a predominantly sedentary role involving extended computer and desk use.
