About the Role
Performs moderately difficult paralegal work in support of attorneys or judges involving legal research, drafting and checking documents and forms; assists in carrying out the more complex tasks under closer supervision or for the purpose of learning.
Responsibilities
- Conduct legal research and compile, summarize, and digest materials.
- Draft legal documents, forms, reports, and correspondence.
- Prepare, process, and maintain legal records and case files.
- Assist in more complex tasks under supervision for training purposes.
- Follow oral and written instructions related to legal procedures.
Requirements
General Experience
Four (4) years of progressively responsible paralegal work experience demonstrating knowledge of:
- Legal terminology and forms.
- Legal research methods and sources of legal information.
- Types of court actions, court rules, and procedures.
- Legal writing and interviewing techniques.
- Ability to read and understand laws, statutes, rules, and legal documents.
- Understanding of legal processes and procedures.
Substitution of Education for Experience
- Graduation from an accredited Legal Secretary curriculum may substitute for one (1) year of General Experience.
- Graduation from an accredited Paralegal/Legal Assistant training program with at least 60 semester credits may substitute for the four (4) years of General Experience.
- Graduation from an accredited School of Law may substitute for all required General Experience.
