Pay

Minimum entry rate: $17.32 per hour (Grade 106 – Support Hourly)

  • New-hire experience credit: 1% per year for full-time, paid experience in like duties within the previous 10 years, up to a maximum 5% increase above starting rate
  • New-hire education credit: 1% increase for an associate degree or higher in a related field (combined credits not to exceed 5%)
  • Performance pay: up to $600 available annually

About the Role

Provide instructional support under the supervision of the special-education teacher in a special-education environment or as required by an Individual Education Plan (IEP). Support students with high-incidence disabilities (e.g., specific learning disabilities, speech-language disabilities, other health impairments).

Responsibilities

  • Student Support & Instruction: Reinforce material and skills by working with individual students or small groups; assist with assessments and data collection under teacher supervision.
  • Social-Emotional Development: Assist students with social and emotional needs, implement behavioral plans, and foster a productive, positive learning environment.
  • Supervision & Safety: Actively supervise students during all school activities (emergency drills, assemblies, field trips, lunch); report concerns such as substance use or dangerous situations.
  • Classroom Operations: Help maintain a quiet, orderly classroom; create bulletin boards and displays; care for school equipment.
  • Communication & Confidentiality: Alert the teacher to student problems; translate orally and in writing for students, parents, and staff; maintain confidentiality of all student and staff information.
  • Flexibility & Teamwork: Perform other duties as assigned to support overall position objectives.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • One of the following:
    • Associate’s degree, or
    • 60 college credits, or
    • Passing score on the Parapro exam (provided by the district at no cost)
  • CPR/First Aid certification (provided by the district)
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment, including computers and related software
  • Satisfactory criminal background check

Physical Requirements

  • Mobility & Movement: Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, stand, walk, and sit; repetitive finger and manual dexterity.
  • Sensory & Communication: Adequate vision and hearing (with correction) to perform essential job functions.
  • Physical Exertion:
    • Occasionally: lift or move objects up to 50 lbs.
    • Frequently: lift or move objects up to 20 lbs.
    • Constantly: lift or move objects up to 10 lbs.
