About the role

This position is for 6.5 hours per day at 164 days per year and 3.5 hours per day at 14 days per year. 7 hours per day for 4 days for the first year and 2 days each year following until certification is completed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists certificated staff with instructional and non-instructional activities for mainstream special education students
  • Instructs students individually or in small groups in a variety of learning activities to promote student understanding of materials presented
  • Communicates with certificated staff concerning individual student progress
  • Monitors and documents student behavior and progress
  • Supervises student activities
  • Corrects behaviors and maintains discipline according to established policies and procedures
  • Establishes and maintains effective communication with students, staff, parents and the public
  • May provide physical assistance to handicapped students, such as lifting and positioning or assistance with personal hygiene
  • Makes referrals for treatment of injured or ill students
  • Alerts qualified district staff to student problems
  • Locates, prepares and/or modifies materials for student use, enrichment activities and special projects
  • Prepares, duplicates, collates and distributes materials
  • Operates a variety of office equipment
  • Serves on various district committees and/or departmental work teams
  • Models appropriate and cooperative behavior

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Hold high school diploma or its equivalent
  • Successfully passed the ETS Para Pro test or Pearson Paraprofessional assessment
  • Earned AA degree or higher
  • Completed a registered apprenticeship program offered by the Washington State Dept. of Labor & Industries
  • Completed The Master Teacher Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program

Qualifications

  • Education and training necessary to carry out the assignment
  • Experience working with school age children and special needs students preferred

Position pay: PSE Salary Schedule Level 5 - $ 25.40

Important Information

  • This is a 1:1 support paraeducator position
  • A change in assignment and/or location may occur based on student specific needs and variances in school enrollment
  • Must successfully complete the Fundamental Course of Studies (FCS) and General Paraeducator Certificate of the state mandated Paraeducator Certificate Program per State requirements
  • Paraeducator Certificate Program is dependent upon State funding
  • Official Hire Date - Your hire date with the Bethel School District is based on School Board approval
  • This date depends on multiple factors and may change without notice

Required Training

  • Person hired for this position must complete Right Response Training within 3-5 months of hire
  • Renewal of Right Response certification must be completed prior to the expiration date
